It has been forever since I posted. Working a lot of nights at The Elkhart Truth I tend to shoot a lot of sports but it is interesting because there are some sports that I shoot that I've never really shot before, like wrestling. Let me know what you think!

Miss Indiana Jackie Jerlecki describes herself as a very relaxed person who would rather wear sweatpants than heels. Jerlecki competed in the 2012 Miss America pageant in Las Vegas but did not advance past the first eliminations.

A Good Week.

Overall this has been a pretty good week. Whenever I had free time in between my normal daily assignments over the past few weeks I worked on two feature pieces about two women who painted their stories on elks for this project called Elk Art on Parade in Elkhart, In. These two pieces ran on Thursday. Then on Saturday I discovered that the pieces that I did for my capstone class at WKU about the Tea Party movement in Kentucky placed third in the Multimedia Projects section of CPOY, which was really cool for me because this is the first time I have placed in CPOY. Today, was my day off and I spent the day hanging out at a coffee house in downtown Elkhart, and then I came home and working on my portfolio update for my website while I watched the newest Harry Potter movie. It has been a pretty good week. I have a few more photos that I would like to post but since they are on the computer that I use at work I will post them later in the week. The Story Behind the Elk - Part 1:
Donielle Boal began playing flute when she was in elementary school and it has continued to play a major role in her life every since. The flute that she has been playing since she first learned how was made in Elkhart, In. After deciding to participate in CAPS Elk Art on Parade, she chose to paint her elk to show her love of her flute and the impact it has had on her life. The Story Behind the Elk - Part 2:
Mary Masters is a descendant of Chief Pierre Moran of the Pokagon band of the Potawatomi and she painted the story of how her great-grandmother and great-grandfather married and their connection to Elkhart County. Mostly Football

So between high school football on Friday nights and Notre Dame football on Saturday, I have been shooting a lot of football over the past few weeks. Most of this post is football but I have put a few others in too, just to break it up a little bit :-)

Here are a few of my favorite images the past month in Elkhart. It was a very exciting month, I got to shoot some cool festivals and I shot my first spot news fire (even though it was pretty much out by the time we got there). It has been a very long time since I last updated, so this blog post is a big one. I started my internship at The Elkhart Truth in Elkhart, Indiana at the end of August and here are a few photos from the past three weeks that I have been here.

Crab

This is kind of a sad post. My family's dog passed away on June 24, 2011 and I know it is delayed but I wanted to make a personal post on my blog in honor of him. You never really know how much you are going to miss a pet until they are gone, and Crab was our fourth pet to die from old age in the past year. He was a good dog who never asked for anything from anyone. He shared his food with every other dog in the neighborhood and was known by most as "Bear" because of how big he was. We all loved him and will miss him.

1st after Graduating

So I graduated from the WKU photojournalism program two Saturdays ago and I am currently back at home in Virginia and fortunate enough to continue shooting freelance for the Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg, VA. I shot my first assignments since I have been back this past weekend and here are a few of my favorites. I shot a high school track meet and a Civil War re-enactment. I love shooting for the paper on the weekends.

My goal was to make an interesting piece which is informative but also interesting and helps to inform about the actual people involved in the movement as opposed to just their political goals. So I was going through my photos on my external drive and I found this photograph that I taken one day when I came home from class. It somehow got lost in the shuffle. I just love the light in this photo and the sweet moment between Jess and her cat. I am also very thankful for how amazing she has been in the past year and as I am getting ready to graduate I just wanted to post this and say thank you to her for always being there for me and believing in me as a photographer. Now enough of the sappy stuff and on to the photo!

Sigma Chi Greek Fight Night - Friday

So I shot the Greek Fight Night at the Blue Dome (Jaycee Pavillion) this past Friday. This was the first time that I have shot boxing and although shooting in the pavillion refreshed my hatred for flouerscent lights, I really enjoyed shooting this sport. It was really exciting. So I had a very busy semester this past fall and I did not get a chance to update my blog as many times as I would have liked to. Here are a few photographs that I took and liked dating back to around Thanksgiving time. Some of them I took for the Free Lance-Star, some of them I took for the College Heights Herald, some of them I took for my Practicum class and others, like the one of one of my puppies, Max, I took just for fun. This is the other Friday Night Lights piece that I worked on this semester. For my practicum class I was I shot stills for the piece about Butler County High School in Morgantown, Ky. My partner was Chris Fryer and I shot the stills for the piece and helped conduct the interviews and he shot the video and did the production of the piece. I think it turned out well, but let me know what you think.

Wedding!

So I shot my first wedding this past weekend and it was a really interesting experience. The bride is a friend of mine whom I met several years ago because I did a photo story on her. Because it is finals week I have not had a chance to edit and tone everything but here are a few of my favorites so far. Let me know what you think! This is my first attempt at a editorial video narrative. It is about a woman named Francis Barnett who lives in Auburn, Ky., is 86 years old, and was just diagnosed with breast cancer 5 weeks ago. There are a few glitches and some editing things that I'm currently changing but let me know what you think anyway!

Keenland Workshop

My practicum class went to Keenland for a remote camera workshop this past Friday (for all my friends not from KY, Keenland is a horse racing track in Lexington). Here are a few of my favorites which I'm going to turn in for class. We had to come up with a feature, and two actions, one from inside the track and one from outside the track. I've never shot horse racing before so I would appreciate any critique you have for me :-)
